Testing Laboratory

Testing Laboratory performs testing and measurements in scope of natural environment, including water, wastewater, soils and sludge analyses, emission and immission measurements as well as noise measurements.

Testing Laboratory received the Accreditation Certificate granted by the Polish Accreditation Center – Accreditation Certificate no AB 912, field of testing: acoustics, sample collection, chemistry, physical-chemical properties, general environment – confirming compliance with the requirements of PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 norm. Polish Accreditation Center is a signatory of International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation ILAC

Within the scope of accreditation we perform the following:

  • industrial and road noise measurements;
  • sampling of groundwaters and surface waters (rivers and streams, water reservoirs), sludges and soils,
  • determination of metal contents (Ag, Cr, Cd, Cu, Zn, Co, Mg, Mn, Ni, Pb, K, Fe, Sn, As, V, Bi) in soils, sludges, water,  wastewater, dust, in ambient air (immission) and in the air of the work environment,
  • determination of SO2, CO, CO2, NO, NO2, NOx, O2 in waste gases,
  • determination of ammonia, chlorine, hydrogen chloride, formaldehyde, isocyanates (MDI, TDI), sulfuric acid, fluorine and fluorides in ambient air (immission), in the air of the work environment and in waste gases (spectrophotometric methods),
  • determination of isocyanates (MDI, TDI) in the air and in waste gases (spectrophotometric methods),
  • determination of nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide in ambient air (immission) by spektrophotometric method,
  • determination of dust in ambient air (immission) and in waste gases (gravimetric method),
  • determination of total and respirable dust in work places by filtration (ravimetric method),
  • determination of organic compounds (acetone, benzene, butyl glycol, cyclohexane, ethylbenzene, isobutanol, isopropanol, xylene, methanol, methyl ethyl ketone, MBIK, butyl acetate, ethyl acetate, methyl acetate, styrene, toluene, hydrocarbons, acrolein, n-butanol, cyclohexanone, epichlorohydrin, vinyl acetate, propylbenzene, acetic acid, phenol, ethanol, dichloromethane, mesitylene, trimethylobenzene, cumene, pentane, hexane, methyl methacrylate, cyclohexanol, diacetone alcohol, phthalate esters) in ambient air (immission), in the air of the work environment and in waste gases (gas chromatography method),
  • determination of volatile organic compounds (VOC) by flame ionization detection method,
  • determination of Cl-, SO4-2, PO4-3, NO2-, NO3-, F- in water and wastewater by liquid chromatography of ions,
  • determination of hydrocarbon oil index in rain waters – method using solvent extraction and gas chromatography
  • determination of nitrate nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, total phosphorus, COD in water and wastewaters by spectrophotometric methods,
  • determination of Kjeldahl nitrogen in water and wastewater – method after mineralization with selenium,
  • determination of phenolic index in water and wastewater (4-aminoantypirine spectrometric methods after distillation),
  • determination of BOD5, pH, electrical conductivity in water and wastewater by electrochemical methods,
  • determination of COD in water and in wastewater by dichromate titration method,
  • suspended solids determination, in water and in wastewater (method by filtration through glass fibre filters),
  • determination of phosphorus and general nitrogen in water and wastewater by testing methods,
  • determination of dry residues and water content in sludges,
  • hot environments - estimation of the heat stress on working man, based on the WBGT-index,
  • cold environments – method of appraisal of negative thermal stress based on WCI and IREQ indices,
  • determination of thermal comfort using calculation of the PMV and PPD indices
  • lighting of indoor work places,
  • measurement and assessment of noise exposure in a work environment.

Outside the scope of accreditation we perform:

  • determination of sodium content in soils, sludges, water, wastewater, dust and other matrices,
  • determination of organic compounds not encompassed with the scope of accreditation (after coordination with the client) in ambient air (immission), air of the work environment and in waste gases (gas chromatography method).

We are still working on extending our scope of accreditation.

All analyses are performed using high quality chemical agents (POCH, Fluka, Sigma-Aldrich, Riedel-de Haen) and the certified samples and reference materials (Merck, Hamilton, Sigma-Aldrich, Fluka, RTC, Chiron, AccuStandard).

The laboratory owns modern apparatus ensuring high quality of the performed measurements and analyses

Site testing:

  • portable gas analyzer PG-250A, Horiba, Japan
  • exhaust-gas analyzer Testo 350, Testo, Germany
  • automatic gravimetric dust metering device P-10ZA, ZAM Kęty, Poland
  • semi-automatic gravimetric dust metering device P-10A, ZAM Kęty, Poland
  • noise level metering devices SVAN 945, vibration level and noise metering device  SVAN 948, acoustic calibrator SV30, SVANTEK, Poland
  • noise level calibrator NC-74, RION, Japan

For transportation of samples collected on the site we have the thermostatic portable box TB 50A by POL - EKO – apparatus ensuring the transportation of samples in constant, low temperature (e.g. in 4oC).

Laboratory analyses:

  • atomic absorption spectrometer  AA240FS with graphitoidal atomizer GTA120 and the device for steams generation VGA77, Varian, Australia
  • gas chromatograph CP-3800GC with FID and PFPD detector, Varian, Australia

  • spectrophotometer DR/4000U, Hach, USA
  • microwave system of preparing samples MARS, CEM, USA
  • laboratory metering device CyberScan5500, Eutech Instruments , USA

Qualifications of laboratory personnel are constantly upgraded through participation in trainings organized by the competent organizations (CE2, PCA, Gdańsk University of Technology, Gdańska Fundacja Wody /Gdansk Water Foundation, PROLAB) and are confirmed in the course of participation in inter-laboratory comparisons (SEWACON – Gdańska Fundacja Wody, pH, Wody Naturalne – Centrum Badań Ekologicznych PAN /Natural Waters – Center of Ecological Research PAN, PROFEA – BAM Germany, Noise Comparison Testing – Institut of Environment Protection).
